It is not good for students to fast for prayer while neglecting their studies- Archbishop Kaziimba

The Archbishop of the Province for the Church of Uganda, His Grace Dr. Samuel Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has urged students preparing for their final exams to avoid fear and the temptation to cheat. Instead, he encouraged them to use the remaining time to study hard, while parents should continue to pray for their success. Archbishop Kaziimba was speaking at Muzza High School, located in the Bukoba Archdeaconry within the Mukono Diocese, where he led the dedication service for the S.4 and S.6 candidates in a service that also included a special holy communion.

Archbishop Kaziimba’s service began with planting a commemorative tree at the school, after which he inaugurated the boys’ dormitory named the “Archbishop Kaziimba Mugalu Complex.” At the same event, he launched the Archbishop Kaziimba Cup, which features various sports including football, netball, swimming, tug-of-war, and cycling. The football match for Church of Uganda team defeating Buganda 5-4 in penalties, while Buganda won the netball match 7-0. Medals and trophies were awarded to the winning teams.

While presenting the trophies to the winners, Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo encouraged people to engage in physical exercise as it is beneficial to their health. He urged that such initiatives continue and commended Muzza High School for organizing the inaugural Archbishop’s Cup, which brought together students, politicians, religious leaders, and elders from Buganda.

Fred Katende Kangave, the second Deputy Ssekiboobo of Kyaggwe County, also addressed the gathering. He advised students preparing for their final exams to dedicate enough time for their studies and also focus on acquiring practical skills that could help them in the future. He praised Wilson Mukiibi Muzzanganda, a key supporter of the event, for his efforts in promoting education and sports within the county, while ensuring that the students maintain Buganda’s traditions and culture.

He urged them to focus on their studies and seize the opportunities given by their parents to become successful. Muzzanganda also announced that the Archbishop’s Cup will be an annual event, aimed at uniting people from all walks of life, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation, in alignment with Kabaka’s message of unity.

The event was attended by several retired bishops, including Bishop James William and his wife, Mama Tezirah Ssebaggala, Bishop Emeritus Coprian Dunstan Bukenya, and dignitaries such as Ssabaganzi Emmanuel Ssekitoleko, Namasole Damalie Harriet Nantongo Muganzi Ndiwulira, Ssekiboobo Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu, AIGP Moses Kaffeero Kabugo, Dr. Livingstone Ssewanyana, President of the Mothers’ Union in the diocese, Sarah Ssewanyana, as well as many politicians, religious leaders, sportsmen, and numerous parents.
