The rampant land fraud and theft in many areas have compelled the Ministry of Lands to introduce a new digital system aimed at making land transactions more transparent. This system will enable every individual to access land information via their mobile phones or computers.
While launching the system called The Public Portal of Uganda’s National Land Information System at the Ministry of Lands office in Wakiso, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Docus Okalany, emphasized that the government is working tirelessly to ensure that citizens have free access to land-related information. She highlighted the ongoing efforts to provide titles to people in areas where land deeds (titles) are unavailable, thus granting them full ownership.
Lenin Victor, the head of technology at the Ministry of Lands, affirmed that this system will eliminate fraud, which has caused many Ugandans to lose their money in fraudulent land transactions.
However, in this context, the Chairman of the Human Rights Commission in Wakiso, Elly Kasirye, urged the government to consider reducing internet costs, making it easier for ordinary citizens to access the system.
Additionally, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Wakiso, Muwanga Lutaaya, called on the Ministry of Lands to implement this system across the entire country.
