The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, has highlighted the significance of Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) as powerful tools for spreading the gospel and strengthening faith, marriages, and families. His message was delivered on Saturday by Mr. Samuel Bakutana, Provincial Fathers’ Union President, during the Provincial Mothers’ Union MDD competitions held at St. Janani Luwum Schools in Bombo, Luwero Diocese.
In his speech, Archbishop Kaziimba commended the Mothers’ Union for organizing the event, emphasizing the role of MDD in gospel outreach. “I commend Mothers’ Union for organizing these music competitions. It is one of the tools for preaching the gospel, to build our faith, our marriages, and our families,” he stated.
The Archbishop also expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Janani Schools for hosting the competitions and praised the choirs for their participation from the diocesan to the provincial level. He congratulated all the choirs for their dedication, acknowledging the time, resources, and commitment required for such activities. Quoting 1 Corinthians 15:58, he said, “Your labor is not in vain.”
The Diocese of West Ankole was declared the winner of the competition, with the Diocese of Northern Uganda securing second place and the Diocese of Lango coming in third. Other dioceses that participated included Namirembe, Mukono, Central Busoga, Bukedi, and South Rwenzori.
Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni of West Ankole Diocese attributed their success to the effort, resources, and time invested in preparing for the competitions. He expressed his gratitude to the Archbishop, organizers, and the participating choirs for their dedication, and extended special thanks to the families who supported the women involved. “This performance and position is another good mark for our Diocese. Together with love, unity, and determination, West Ankole is heading for greatness,” Bishop Twinomujuni said.
Mrs. Grace Murengyezi, the Provincial Mothers’ Union President, explained that the primary goal of the competition was to spread the gospel through MDD. She celebrated the success of the event, noting that it had uncovered remarkable talent. “The response has been overwhelming. We have seen remarkable talent and dedication from all participating choirs. The competition has showcased their skills and strengthened bonds between dioceses, fostering unity and friendship among participants,” she said.
A total of eight choirs from different dioceses across the four regions of the Church of Uganda took part in the competition, contributing to the unity and vibrancy of the event.
