The Deputy Secretary General of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko, has called on leaders and stakeholders in Busoga to prioritize addressing the pressing challenges facing the ordinary people in the region. Speaking during a recent engagement, Namayanja emphasized that the government’s core mission is to uplift communities and improve the standard of living for every Ugandan.
Namayanja highlighted the importance of focusing on key areas such as access to clean water, healthcare, education, and improved agricultural practices. These sectors are critical to ensuring sustainable development and economic empowerment for the people of Busoga, a region that has long faced issues of poverty and underdevelopment.
Addressing the Key Issues
Namayanja urged leaders to remain committed to implementing programs that tackle unemployment, especially among the youth, which is a major concern in Busoga. She emphasized that creating job opportunities and empowering young people with vocational skills is vital to the region’s socio-economic transformation.
In addition, she stressed the need for improved infrastructure, especially roads, to facilitate trade and movement. Better road networks, according to Namayanja, would boost local businesses, increase access to markets, and improve access to essential services like healthcare and education.
Government’s Commitment to Service Delivery
Namayanja reassured the people of Busoga that the NRM government, under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, remains committed to the development agenda and ensuring that the needs of all regions are met. She highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by communities in Busoga and called for continued support of government programs designed to uplift the socio-economic status of the region.
She also encouraged local leaders to strengthen their collaboration with government agencies and development partners to accelerate service delivery, particularly in rural areas where many residents still face difficulties accessing basic services.
Empowering the Local Communities
As part of her message, Namayanja underscored the importance of community engagement and active participation in development projects. She noted that involving the people in decision-making processes ensures that the solutions provided are tailored to meet the real needs of the community.
The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, highlighted the importance of addressing local challenges in Busoga during a mobilization meeting in Iganga. She emphasized that leadership involves tackling the difficulties of solving people’s problems and stressed the need to restore the NRM’s support in Busoga by responding to the community’s needs. This aligns with the party’s strategy for the 2026 elections.
In conclusion, Namayanja urged leaders and stakeholders to remain united and focused on the shared goal of transforming Busoga into a region of opportunity and prosperity for all its residents.
Hon. Nansubuga Rosemary Seninde added that research in Busoga and Buganda revealed the need for direct community engagement, particularly in critical sectors like fishing and sugarcane growing. Leaders present, including Hon. Bagiire Aggrey and Hon. Taaka Agnes, praised the initiative, while Namayanja assured them that concerns would be forwarded to relevant government bodies.
The meeting, attended by over 200 leaders from various sectors, represents the NRM’s focus on strengthening support in key regions by addressing community-specific concerns. This effort continues tomorrow with interactions with sugarcane growers in Jinja and the fishing community in Mayuge.
