The Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has announced that the Buganda Kingdom has forgiven the family of the late Tamale Mirundi, following his recent passing. This act of forgiveness comes after the family of the outspoken political commentator and journalist today physically apologized to the Kingdom.
Tamale Mirundi, known for his bold and controversial views, had at times clashed with various institutions, including the Buganda Kingdom. However, with his passing, the Kingdom remained silent and never did it send any condolence message to the family, this left the family in a state of denial.
After the burial, the family decided to seek the attention of the kingdom to allow them to tender their apology on behalf of their son and brother for the annoying statements he made towards the King and the kingdom
Tamale Mirund’s older brother, John Ssali Ssebunya admitted that Mirundi’s past statements upset the kingdom and the king he therefore wrote to the kingdom seeking the family apology in person which the Kingdom accepted today Tuesday, and the family was permitted to tender their apology in front of the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga.
During their visit, the Katikiro informed the family about how the King was pleased with the gesture they had shown emphasizing that it was a sign of humility.
“ The king was pleased with your visit and asked me to meet you and hear from you. He accepted your apology and emphasized that apologizing is a sign of humility. From now on you are welcome to engage with Mengo just like any other people in Buganda.” Katikiro stated.
Mayiga then said that Tamale came through Mengo’s hands after he was nurtured by CBS radio from where the government took him and later he decided to turn against his roots.
The family through John Ssali Ssebunya expressed gratitude to the Kingdom for accepting their apology
Tamale died from lung disease at Kisubi Hospital, on 13 August 2024, where he had been hospitalized for a month and he was buried in Kalisizo.
