“Prioritize Banyala Rights, Avoid Marginalization” – Rev. Wilson Galimaka Urges Kayunga Leaders.

In his first official engagement since being appointed as the “Omwikirwaku wa Bunyala,” Rt. Hon. Rev. Wilson Galimaka led a delegation of ministers from the Obukama bwa Bunyala to meet with the Kayunga District leadership. The meeting, held in the office of the District Chairperson, marked a new chapter in the relationship between the district and the Bunyala Kingdom.

The District Chairperson, Andrew Muwonge, warmly welcomed Rev. Galimaka and his team. He was joined by key district officials, including Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Mahaba Maliki, District Internal Security Officer (DISO) Mr. Okotti, and Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ms. Nasasiira.

Rev. Galimaka’s Address

During his address, Rev. Galimaka expressed gratitude to the district leaders for their dedicated service to the people of Kayunga and the Bunyala Kingdom. He emphasized the need for the leaders to actively prioritize the Banyala people in their work, noting that the Banyala, like all citizens, have rights that must be respected. He called for an end to any form of marginalization or discrimination against the Banyala community.

A Call for Collaboration

Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Mahaba Maliki echoed Rev. Galimaka’s sentiments, stressing the importance of collaboration between the district and the Bunyala Kingdom. Maliki stated that it was time for the district to work more closely with the kingdom to ensure that the Banyala people are not left behind in development efforts.

District Chairperson’s Commitment

District Chairperson Andrew Muwonge, also known as Mugimu from the Bagimu Clan, expressed his appreciation for Rev. Galimaka’s visit. He assured the Omwikirwaku that the district leadership was ready to collaborate with the Bunyala Kingdom to drive progress in Kayunga.

Muwonge further mentioned that the district had written to the Attorney General of Uganda, seeking clarification on the matter of sub-county headquarters. According to the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding between the President of Uganda and the Kabaka of Buganda Kingdom, these headquarters are supposed to be returned to the Bunyala Kingdom.

A Step Forward for Bunyala and Kayunga

The meeting signifies a significant step forward in strengthening relations between the Bunyala Kingdom and the Kayunga District leadership. Both sides are hopeful that this collaboration will lead to positive developments for the Banyala community and the district as a whole.
