PLU Mobiliser, Hon. Mawanda, Reveals Why Gen. Muhoozi Won’t Contest for President in 2026

In an interview on Dekamos TV’s YouTube channel, part of Dekamos Media Services, Hon. Michael Mawanda, Member of Parliament for Igaara East in Bushenyi District and Chief Mobiliser of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), addressed speculations about General Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s potential candidacy in the 2026 presidential elections. Speaking on the “Deep Talk Analysis” program hosted by Kaddu Derrick Mbojjana, Mawanda clarified that the PLU, while ready for any eventuality, is not politically active but a civic organization dedicated to national patriotism.

Mawanda emphasized that although Gen. Muhoozi is viewed as a capable leader, he remains committed to his current role in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). He added that while there is talk of Gen. Muhoozi being a potential candidate, no final decision has been made, as the 2026 political landscape is still uncertain. If NRM chooses not to field a candidate, PLU would support Gen. Muhoozi.

Responding to concerns about opposition, Mawanda downplayed statements from National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, affirming that PLU’s focus is on civic duty, not political rivalry. He further noted that PLU is funded by contributions from its executive members and is open to all Ugandans, regardless of their political affiliations.
