At this very moment, NUP’s President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is at sharp odds with his elder brother Chairman Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu.
Despite the fact that Nyanzi and Kyagulanyi suckled from the same breast, their dispute has become overboard because they can even by pass each other like strangers when they meet at their ancestral home in Kanoni, Gomba.
An Insider in the great Ssentamu family disclosed to this mighty website that to reconcile the Russia-America like war between these two brothers will be equivalent to staying in Antarctica because they have not a proper heir to their late father Jackson Wellington Ssentamu who succumbed to diabetes in 2015, to bring them on around table.
KYAGULANYI EMBARRASSES NYANZI IN PUBLIC
Kyagulanyi made his rift with Nyanzi public during NUP’s paying of it’s last respects to fallen Kawempe North legislator Mohammed Ssegirinya.
When Kyagulanyi was delivering his eulogy, he embarrassed Nyanzi by telling mourners that had gathered at party head quarters in Makerere-Kavule that “it was Nyanzi who connected me up with Ssegirinya but unfortunately the same Nyanzi also brought me bad elements of the likes Abed Bwanika and his gang that have caused me a terrible headache. These have also paid my generosity with treachery plus damaging the reputation of our party by classifying it as a gay party and other sorts of indignifying names.”
Kyagulanyi’s remarks made Nyanzi feel small from his chair and in shame, he shied away by looking down.
THE GENESIS OF THEIR FIGHT
A Registrar from NUP spilt beans to this mighty website that recently, they held a meeting at the Party Headquarters in Makerere-Kavule to discuss the pieces(candidates) they where to fix on their chess board in the upcoming 2026 elections.
All the meeting attendants agreed to center the discussion on Kampala.
It’s here that Nyanzi who doubles as the Party’s National Secretary for Mobilization based to reveal his burning desire to run for Lord Mayorship but when the party Political Analysts reflected on him, they saw that he was going to cost them a terrible checkmate to the Erias Lukwago,the incumbent Lord Mayor.
Though Nyanzi insisted that “I believe you are all convinced that my Kunga Program has done wonders when it comes to garnering support of the party. Except when you don’t appreciate, how can you punch holes in victory of a good mobiliser like me for Lord Mayorship,” the Party Political Analysts continued to stand their ground. These advised further that if Nyanzi has thirst for securing himself a political seat, he should either re-contest for Kampala Central Division legislator or go contest for Kawempe South legislator.
The alternative of sending Nyanzi to contest in Kawempe South where Kazibwe Bashir whom they describe as a walking corpse, is, Nyanzi interpreted it as undermining him and raged that if they do not want him to run for Lord Mayor, then they shouldn’t bother to nominate him for any other post.
One of the attendants explained to Nyanzi that their decision is driven on fact that for years the Lord Mayor’s position has been occupied by Muslims with their success being driven by an invincible hand of titular Muslim head, Prince Kassim Nakibenge, so for purposes of keeping good relations with him and his followers, they can’t risk to have him run for Lord Mayorship because since he’s Principal Kyagulanyi’s elder brother and non moslem to make matters worse, his running for Lord Mayorship can easily be perceived as a direct attack on moslems.
He concluded by telling Nyanzi that since his mansion is located in Kuwunya Parish which’s near Kawempe South and that his businesses are situated in Kampala Central Division, it would make much more sense for him to stand as legislator in either Kawempe South or Kampala Central Division
Nyanzi arrogantly answered back that “I posses a 30 year’s experience in politics, people of yesterday can’t lecture me about politics”
This statement pissed off the attendants and promoted them into a war of words.
When Principal Kyagulanyi called the house to order, another member suggested that since Nyanzi performed badly in the past elections for Kampala Central Division legislator, he should this time round stand as Kawempe South legislator and David Lewis Rubongoya,the Secretary General be made to stand for Kampala Central Division legislator.
When Nyanzi vehemently opposed this motion by even banging the table, Principal Kyagulanyi asked members to conduct a vote on the matter. This ended with those voting in favor winning and Kyagulanyi turned to dissatisfied Nyanzi and told him that “should you continue to be big headed and campaign for Lord Mayorship, I will not also stand for Presidency”
From that meeting, Nyanzi and Kyagulanyi are not eye to eye. Close people to Nyanzi told us that Nyanzi has never ceased campaigning for Lord Mayorship because he began dreaming to be Lord Mayor in early 2000s,so for Kyagulanyi not to support his dream, he interpreted it as betrayal.
