The Provincial Annual Youths and Students Convention (PAYSCO) 2024 concluded with a powerful call to Uganda’s youth to embrace scripture as a transformative tool for leadership and personal development. Held at Mengo SS under the theme “Transformed Generation of Leaders” from Romans 12:1-2, the three-day event was marked by impactful teachings, skill-building workshops, and vibrant fellowship.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, closed the convention with a stirring exhortation to live by scripture. “Youth, if you desire to make a significant impact, the scripture must guide your life. It is only through God’s word that you can lead with integrity and purpose,” he urged. He also advised attendees to avoid undisciplined behavior, bad company, and inappropriate dressing, emphasizing a commitment to moral integrity.
Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi, a seasoned Bible expositor and former Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, expounded on leadership as a divine calling. Citing Exodus 3:10 and Isaiah 6:1, he encouraged participants to pursue transformational leadership that begins with personal change.
Canon Dr. Ruth Senyonyi, Chairperson of the Uganda AIDS Commission, spoke passionately about the importance of integrity and sexual purity, asserting that these qualities are vital for leaders in all aspects of life.
Rev. Dr. Lydia Kitayimbwa highlighted the challenges and opportunities facing young leaders, urging them to approach their roles with faithfulness and resilience.
Skills Development and Activities
Bbira Vocational Training College provided hands-on workshops in baking, knitting, hairdressing, catering, and more, equipping participants with skills to become job creators. Eng. Juliet Nakanjako Ngabirano, the College Principal, emphasized the importance of vocational training in empowering the youth for self-reliance.
The convention also featured Bible quizzes, team-building exercises, Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) competitions, and special giveaways, including smartphones and study Bibles.
Reflections and Gratitude
Rev. Emmanuel Koboi, Youth and Students Coordinator, praised the exemplary behavior and enthusiasm of the attendees. He also extended gratitude to sponsors and dioceses that supported the event, ensuring its success.
Rev. Simon Peter Ddembe Lya Yesu, Director of Mission and Outreach, celebrated the convention as a triumph in fostering spiritual growth and leadership skills among the youth. “The sessions have equipped them with practical leadership skills and a deeper understanding of their faith,” he noted.
The 2024 PAYSCO was a resounding success, leaving participants inspired and equipped to lead as a “Transformed Generation of Leaders.”
