This encouragement came from the Archdeacon of Seeta, Ven. Canon Edward Balamaze During a thanksgiving service for Lay Reader Enock Tumusiime of Bunyumya Church of Uganda, Archdeacon of Seeta, Ven. Canon Edward Balamaze Kironde, highlighted the importance of community-driven development. Tumusiime recently completed a Master’s degree in Education specializing in Institutional Management and Administration. The celebration took place at Tumusiime’s new residence in Lutengo, Naggalama Nakifuma Town Council, Mukono District.
As part of the event, Tumusiime led a fundraising drive to support his initiative to bring electricity to the Lutengo area, with a target of 20 million UGX. The drive raised 3 million UGX in cash towards this project.
Canon Balamaze commended Tumusiime’s commitment to education, seeing it as a model for others in the community. He urged clergy and residents to actively engage in local development, advocating for contributions that benefit the community as a whole, rather than individual pursuits.
Hon. Peace Kusasiira, former Women’s Member of Parliament for Mukono District, emphasized the significance of community-led development efforts. She noted that government assistance is often more impactful when communities are already working toward their own improvement. She praised Tumusiime for his leadership in this development initiative.
In addition to his role as Lay Reader at Bunyumya Church of Uganda in the Ndeeba Archdeaconry, Tumusiime is the Head Teacher of Bunyumya Church of Uganda Primary School and the Principal at St. Paul Higher Institution Nazigo, under the Mukono Diocese. He shared some of the challenges faced by his community, especially the lack of electricity, which motivated him to spearhead the power project for Lutengo.
The thanksgiving service was attended by the Archdeacon of Bukoba, Ven. Charles Bukenya, along with Mama Miriam Bukenya, clergy members, Lay Readers, and politicians from Kayunga District, including Hon. Harriet Nakwedde, Eng. Kafeero Ssali Fred, Councilor Kamulegeya Yasini, school leaders, and community members.
