The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has reaffirmed the Church’s dedication to advocating for the health and well-being of families, with a focus on maternal and child health.
Speaking at the interfaith pre-safe motherhood conference held at Serena Hotel, Kampala, organized by Faith for Family Health (3FHi), Archbishop Kaziimba emphasized the Church’s role in improving Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Adolescent Health, and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Uganda. He celebrated the country’s progress, including the reduction in maternal mortality, but urged continued action on persistent challenges such as teenage pregnancy and preventable maternal deaths.
“Our theme, ‘Strengthening Community Engagement for Sustainable Maternal and Child Health,’ aligns with the responsibility we bear as religious leaders. Church of Uganda is committed to advocating for the well-being of women, children, and adolescents for the better future of our families, communities, and the nation,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.
The conference also marked the launch of the Interfaith Alliance for Health, with religious leaders calling for partnerships with the Ministry of Health to strengthen Uganda’s health systems.
