If Nambooze and I continued to sail from the same political board,we were bound to capsize-Mayor Kagimu.

If Nambooze and I continued to sail from the same political board,we were bound to capsize-Mayor Kagimu.

George Kagimu Festino, the former Mayor of Mukono Municipality has denied having a personal grudge with Betty Nambooze Bakireke, Mukono Municipality legislator.

He stressed that the cause of their friction was only political and should they have continued to sail from the same boat, they were bound to capsize.

At Dekamos Media Services, we are here to remind you that capturing your great moments is our passion.

Kagimu who happens to be the propieter of Festino City and former President of Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) said all this in an exclusive interview we had with him at Festino City.

He highlighted on so many matters of national important and his interview was like this

DEKAMOS:Why are you at extreme loggerheads with Honourable Betty Nambooze

KAGIMU:My friction with my sister Betty is only political not personal. When we meet on functions we say hi and in fact gave her a phone call when I learnt she was sick.

Over time realized that Betty and i belonged to two different political worlds. Thus should we have continued to sail from the same political boat,we could capsize.

Our parting ways began during the construction of Mukono-Kayunga road.I Lobbed some money and when I  approached authorities in ministry of works and we agreed to expand the Mukono round about by adding access roads on either sides.

For this plan to be a success the building houses around Mukono Tax Park had to be broken but only after compensation of the occupants but my sister Betty manipulated stories that I had sold the park which was so heartbreaking and frustrating.

Example Two

When the construction of Mukono- Kayunga road got done,I learnt that government had saved some chunks of money which I requested with a purpose of constructing a road from Igar Petrol Station to Mukono Boarding to Nasuuti. If this road had  been done the problem of jam on Kampala-Jinja Highway would be automatically solved. But my bevoled sister dust all these arrangements in masses by playing cheap popularity politics.

For years Betty has used her convincing tongue to take advantage of the people in Mukono which I term as hypocrisy.

She tells people that all around her fight her because she’s fighting for them but unless you are God you can’t be right all the time. How can all  the people around you be only bad?

My politics is developmental.I don’t play politcs of sowing hatred for purposes of divide and rule.

DEKAMOS:But it’s rumored that during the 2016 campaigns that you and Hon Nambooze flocked together,Nambooze was too broke to an extent that she had no money to buy food for her family. In that way,you borrowed her money that she refused to pay and you parted ways

KAGIMU:It’s true that in 2016 I had just come back from “kyeyo” with some “ka” money but Betty doesn’t owe me any money

DEKAMOS:You refer to Hon Nambooze as your sister but you want remove her from parliament were she earns some money to cater for her big hospital bills.Isnt that hypocrisy?

KAGIMU:First of all the position of Mukono Municipality legislator isn’t Nambooze’s,it’s for Mukononians and have a mandate to chose from it a person of their choice that’s why i appeal to them to this time entrust me to be their MP

I agree my sister has served but she has already exceeded two terms and in my point of view,a leader shouldnt serve more than two terms because she/he will not bring anything  new on table  that’s why I served as Mayor Mukono Municipality for one term and I left and when I become MP,It  will be the same story.

I encourage change every after two terms because every leader has priorities for example my priority is development, my successors priority could be agriculture.Dont you think it helps when I leave office having constructed all roads that connect to markets and my successor comes to support those farmers with good seeds to grow such that they can get good harvest to take to the market.

DEKAMOS:But you are damn rich,What forced you into politics?

KAGIMU: People have always asked me that question but truth be told no senseble human can’t be okay or be proud when the people around him/her are not.

I have invested alot of money in leisure businesses but when people are financially damaged,my business will collapse.Because we all need each other, that’s why we need collective development not individual development.

Hon.Bakireke_Nambooze_Betty-Mp Municipality.

Thus I joined politics to use my political position to develop the livelihood of our people such that we can all be okay

DEKAMOS:According to your explanation,Uganda has become like the Animal farm, all animals are equal but some are more privileged, why?

KAGIMU:The problem is leadership.

Leaders are a mirror of the society from which they come from but this government is totally different. This government is a total disaster to this country.

There’s a 20% gang of greedy lions who perceived it that they own this country. All previlages go unto them  because they have excessive powers. They have accumulated alot of wealth that’s engulfed with tears and curses from the lay man

Mark you M7 was referring to them when he stated that Ugandans had attained middle income.

This means that 80% of hustling Ugandans is determined from the 20%.

We the majority are serfs to the 20% gang and for survival we must clean their foot.

It’s too difficult to make break into the premises of the 20% gang. The few Ugandans like the Ssembules etc who tried to beat the odds of the game where put down to an extent of grassing.

DEKAMOS:Unlike other Ugandans you have accumulated wealth from the government you curse.

KAGIMU:I had to brain drained in over 52 countries to gather the wealth you are talking about.

DEKAMOS:Your party DP is now divided into three hostile camp. There’s Chair Mao’s camp, Hon Richard Ssebamala’s camp and Dr.Lulume Bayiga’s camp.In which camp do you lie and why?

KAGIMU:Am unshakable member of DP

Truely,DP is faced with so many problems but I can’t run away from it.You mean to say that when you have problems at your home you run away from it,no you keep around and find means of digesting them

And mark you this is not the first time in history DP is facing political challenges

DEKAMOS:With that divided opposition,do you think you people can have President Museveni out of power?

KAGIMU:M7 came to power with free hands. He asked for an orange that he put in his fingers. And with time he asked for another arrange to be added to him and it was added.Remember he’s not eating the oranges he’s collecting from his hands. As he continues to ask for more oranges to be added to him, time will reach when he can no longer carry them and he will pour them all at once.

DEKAMOS:Do you agree with plans of making Muhoozi M7’s son his successor?

KAGIMU:Since in Uganda there’s no law that prohibits the President’s son from running for presidency,I don’t see any fuss  of Muhoozi to contest for presidency only if he’s to compete fairly with others in the race.

But from what I see Muhoozi is not suitable for president. When the country was in a financial crisis,he was busy organising birthday parties

Muhoozi’s security is more less that of the President and that’s all tax payers money being spent.

My home in Zambia is next to the current’s president personal house. When am in it,I can pip in his house but I noticed that the president is kept by police officers. These escort him to and from work and after they depart his premises

But this extravagance of having a battalion escorting someone to the washroom must stop.

DEKAMOS:In your career you have been chairman of various associations of Ugandans based abroad.Tell us why Ugandans get stranded in those countries?

KAGIMU:Unlike us here those advanced countries do alot of planning that suits most of their citizens. They have farm houses for beggers, the unemployed are paid by government to buy themselves basic needs, can you imagine?.There are special homes were the elderly are catered etc.

Back then in those advanced countries there was high demand for employers to facilitate production because the natives in those advanced countries couldn’t go for those cheap jobs their governments had to do shipping of workers from foreign countries.

Thousands of people flooded in those countries for employment and the early birds ate the worm.

Since the turn up of people seeking for employment was overwhelming, shortly the job demand gap for foreign workers narrowed.

Now, for a foreign worker to earn himself/herself a job must be too lucky.

It’s this bitter truth that recruiting agencies don’t tell Ugandans because they want to swindle their money

So when a Ugandan leaves home expecting a job and he/she doesn’t get one, they end up stranded yet the standards of living in those countries are too high. The more disappointed someone gets, the more resigned he/she becomes. When this is accompanied with pressure from home, those with weak hearts give up into prostitution and other dirty jobs for survival.
