“Official Send-Off Program for Late Rt. Rev. Samuel Balaggade Ssekadde Announced: He Will Be Laid to Rest at Cathedral Cemetery on October 17th, 2024, Says Bishop Moses Banja”

The Rt. Rev. Moses Banja, current Bishop of Namirembe Diocese, has officially released the program for the funeral of the late Rt. Rev. Samuel Balaggade Ssekadde. The announcement was made during a press conference held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, alongside other clergy members.

Bishop Moses Banja expressed heartfelt gratitude for the remarkable work Bishop Ssekadde accomplished during his tenure. “His dedication brought many to Christ and fostered the development of churches, hospitals, schools, and other vital projects,” Bishop Banja remarked. He also called for prayers for Bishop Ssekadde’s family, particularly Maama Allen, during this difficult time.

Funeral Program Summary

Tuesday, 15th October 2024

  • 6:00 PM: The body of Bishop Ssekadde arrives at his home, followed by a service and vigil.

Wednesday, 16th October 2024

  • 11:00 AM: The body arrives at Entebbe Archdeaconry Headquarters, Namate.
  • Later that day, the body will arrive at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, where it will be received by the Dean, the Very Rev. Canon Jonathan Kisawuzi Ssalongo, and staff, and moved to Hannington Chapel.
  • 7:00 PM: A service with Holy Communion will take place in the main sanctuary.

Thursday, 17th October 2024

  • 10:00 AM: The main funeral service will commence.
  • 2:00 PM: The burial will take place at the Cathedral Cemetery.

Bishop Moses Banja noted that all bishops from this diocese are traditionally laid to rest in the Cathedral Cemetery.

Bishop Samuel Ssekadde leaves behind a legacy as a servant-leader who deeply believed in the transformative power of faith, prayer, education, and community development. His work continues to shape the diocese and the Church of Uganda.

Bishop Ssekadde was married to Allen Ssekadde for over 50 years, a union blessed by holy matrimony.
