The Government of Uganda remains committed to ensuring that its citizens transition from darkness to accessing electricity. However, challenges persist, especially for communities living on water bodies or islands.

In response, the Mukono District Council convened and approved a supplementary budget for the 2024/2025 financial year. Initially, the budget stood at over UGX 114 billion, but with the latest adjustment, it has increased to UGX 116 billion. This additional funding will support the installation of a Mini Solar System in Koome Sub-county, specifically in five villages, including Koome Main, Nsaazi, Kakunyu, and Lwanga Mukulu Bugiri.

The council session was chaired by Speaker Nakasi Betty, who began by congratulating all councilors who had traveled to Gulu for benchmarking on road construction strategies. She urged them to work closely with the technical committee to improve service delivery in Mukono.
Additionally, she encouraged councilors to support and participate in the upcoming Kabaka Birthday Run on April 6, 2025, which aims to raise awareness and support women living with HIV/AIDS. Together with her team, Nakasi distributed promotional kits to councilors and district leaders.

Kabali further highlighted projections for the upcoming 2025/2026 budget, estimated at UGX 170 billion, with the primary objective of eradicating poverty and improving the livelihoods of Mukono residents.
Meanwhile, Mukono District’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ms. Namanda Elizabeth, expressed her gratitude to the Government of Uganda for securing the funds included in the budget. She also appreciated landowners who voluntarily donated land for the project.
However, she emphasized the need for fast implementation to avoid the funds being returned to the government. She warned against individuals who expect monetary compensation for every government project, stating that such mindsets slow down development efforts.
Addressing the council, Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa commended the Koome residents, particularly those who donated land, for their contribution toward the electrification project.

He urged Ugandans to voluntarily offer land for development projects in their communities so that residents can benefit from such initiatives. Bakaluba also encouraged people to support afforestation efforts and actively participate in the Kabaka Birthday Run at Mengo Palace.

The council session was attended by the Deputy CAO, Muhumuza Stephen, heads of various district departments, sub-county leaders, and other stakeholders, including Ssaabakunzi of Kyaggwe County, Ssebunya John Ronald, who led efforts to distribute promotional kits and encouraged local leaders to actively participate in the Kabaka Birthday Run.
