The construction of the second floor of the Mukono District headquarters has officially commenced, following financial support from the central government and the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa has urged the Ugandan government to increase its support for the development and empowerment of Buganda regions so they can compete effectively in service delivery, especially given that Buganda residents contribute the highest amount in taxes.

After more than six years of stalled construction due to financial constraints, the Mukono District administration, under the leadership of District Chairperson Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, has relaunched the completion of the district headquarters, including the construction of the second floor. The project is estimated to cost over 600 million Ugandan shillings.

Mukono District’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ms. Namanda Elizabeth, stated that the launch aims to create awareness among stakeholders funding the project and to strengthen monitoring mechanisms for the effective utilization of funds. She urged local leaders to remain vigilant in ensuring that resources are used appropriately, emphasizing the importance of seeking additional support from the government through the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area. Ms. Namanda also called on contractors to work efficiently and prevent the funds from being returned due to underutilization.
Engineer Herbert Lutwama, overseeing the technical aspects of the project, outlined that the headquarters’ completion will follow the original architectural design. The work will include: Renovation of the entire building,Installation of a 150,000-litre water system,Integration of solar lighting and Deployment of CCTV cameras and the construction is expected to be completed within six months.

Similarly, Engineer Hategeka Godfrey (full name not provided) expressed appreciation for the Mukono District leadership’s commitment to the welfare of its people. He assured the community that the engineering team will strive to complete the project on time and to the highest standards.
While presiding over the official launch, Hon. Bakaluba Mukasa reaffirmed his call for the government to provide increased financial support for the development of Buganda regions. He emphasized that Buganda should receive adequate resources to enhance service delivery, considering its substantial contribution to the national tax base.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner in Mukono District, Hassani Kasibante, commended Hon. Bakaluba Mukasa and Ms. Namanda Elizabeth for their leadership in ensuring Mukono District progresses steadily. He encouraged them to continue their efforts in securing full ownership of the district headquarters to prevent external competitors from taking advantage of any administrative gaps.
