Mukono District Chairperson, Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, has urged government officials responsible for tax collection in various sub-counties to be trustworthy. He emphasized that their integrity would enable them to deliver better services to the electorate rather than engaging in self-enrichment.

Rev. Bakaluba made these remarks at the Mukono District headquarters while inspecting the ongoing construction work to complete the district office building. The second phase of the construction, currently underway, is expected to cost over UGX 700 million, with Savana Engineering Works Limited contracted to handle the work.

Rev. Bakaluba began by appreciating the people of Mukono from various sub-counties for their commitment to paying taxes, as this enables the district to provide better services without financial constraints. He further encouraged residents to continue paying taxes diligently since these funds contribute to the district’s development.
While speaking about tax collection, Bakaluba Mukasa reiterated his call for government tax officials in different sub-counties to be trustworthy so they can efficiently serve the electorate instead of engaging in corrupt activities.

In the same vein, he assured the people of Mukono that the district leadership is committed to fulfilling its promises by ensuring the completion of the district office building. He also explained the various sources of funding, including tax revenue, local government contributions, support from Greater Mukono Kampala, and the World Bank.
Hon. Bakaluba also highlighted several achievements, such as Renovation of schools, Construction of a medical store, Roadworks, including graveling and culvert installations, Rehabilitation of bridges and Provision of desks in various schools.
Meanwhile, Edward Ntale, representing Savana Engineering Works Ltd, informed the public that the project is expected to be completed within three months. He outlined the planned construction activities, which include Fixing doors and windows, renovating the ground floor, Repainting the walls, Electrical and mechanical installations, Fire safety measures and Installation of a groundwater tank for rainwater harvesting.
Mukono District officially became a district in 1980, having previously been part of Buganda and later named East Mengo and Kyagwe District. Later, the districts of Kayunga, Buvuma, and Buikwe were carved out of Mukono.

The construction of the district office building began in the year 2000 but was halted for a long period. However, Hon. Rev. Dr. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, upon assuming office as District Chairperson, prioritized its completion as part of his administration’s development agenda.
